Introduction:
Starting with v2.3, SAM4H can be used in order to collect capacity and performance data and upload the files to the IOportal (either Cloud or on-premise instance). This method is recommended for all customers.
Benefits:
- Collecting data with SAM4H does not require a license and comes at no additional cost
- Customers that already use SAM4H benefit from a simplified setup, since SAM4H is already installed and in use
- SAM4H v2.3 supports collection of performance data with Hitachi export tool v1
- SAM4H v2.4 and later support collection of performance data with both with Hitachi export tool v1 and v2. Collecting with export tool v2 is possible for all E series and VSP One Block 24/26/28 arrays
- The export collection logic used in SAM4H automatically closes up gaps in data collection and corrects for timezone offsets
- When collecting data with export v2, SAM4H automatically and smartly manages the CUs for which data collection is enabled. If volumes are created on new CUs, those are automatically configured for performance data collection
Instructions:
- Download SAM4H from the Service Portal and follow the installation instructions that are available inside the software package
- Create dedicated users
- Create an IOportal Agent configuration and download the configuration file
- Import the the IOportal Agent configuration file in SAM4H under the menu: Administration -> IOportal Agent
- Download the Hitachi export libraries and copy them on the SAM4H host
- For pre-existing SAM4H installations, add following line to your docker-compose.yml under sam4h>volumes: "- /opt/hitachi/explibs:/opt/export_tool:z" (in this example the export libraries were copied under /opt/hitachi/explibs) on the host
