How to create dedicated users for collecting data

Irrespective whether IOportal data is collecting via SAM4H or the Hitachi collector scripts, it is required to create dedicated users on the storage array for the purpose of data collection.

Collect with Hitachi script:

When using the Hitachi collector scripts to collect data, a dedicated user is required for collecting data.
  • Create a new user group called "Performance Monitoring Group" and add the role "Storage Administrator (Performance Management)". Add all available resource groups to user group
  • Create a new user inside the "Performance Monitoring Group". Choose a username and password. Avoid special characters for the password. Make sure that authentication is set to local
  • e.g. ioportal: ioportal-customername

Collect with SAM4H:

When collecting data with SAM4H, you will require two users. Make sure you create two separate dedicated users as described below:

For performance data collection

  • This users will be used for collecting performance data via the export tool (v1 or v2)

For capacity data collection

  • SAM4H requires a dedicated root user for reading the array configuration. The same user is used for collecting capacity and configuration data for the IOportal
  • create a new user in the "Administrator User Group"
  • Add all resource groups to new user
  • e.g. sam4h: sam4h-password
